Institut Pasteur de la Guyane (France)
Since more than 80 years, the Institut Pasteur of French Guiana supports the Public Health and Science through numerous laboratories among which several reference centers for viruses (Arbovirus, Hantavirus, and Respiratory viruses including flu and CoVID) and malaria (WHO collaborating regional center). It has a long history of study of the pathogens causing the most crucial public health problems to the Guianese population. The medical entomology has been a focus point since the beggining, embedded in the Insitute’s participation to the historical control programs against vector-borne dieseases like malaria, yellow fever and dengue. Nowadays, the Institut Pasteur of French Guiana is involved in the vector surveillance expertise througout the territory, including the resistance to chemical insecticides as well as the development of new alternative methods for vector control. Among them, our team is very interested currently on Wolbachia methods. Another point of interest focuses on zoonotic pathogen emergence with field studies and experimental arboviral infection of different vector species thanks to our BSL3 insectary and local expertise in NGS. Many students are welcome in the Institut Pasteur of French Guiana’s laboratories and collaborations with regional and international teams are particularly well considered.
