First Experimental Center for Research and Evaluation of Strategies for Malaria Vector Control in the Amazon State (CEPAVE).
Eliminating malaria in South America requires strong research cooperation and innovation in vector control.
To meet this challenge, our group at MIVEGEC-IRD and FIOCRUZ – Fundação Oswaldo Cruz-IOC, in partnership with the Fundação de Vigilância em Saúde e o Ministério da Saúde do Brasil, established the first Experimental Center for Research and Evaluation of Strategies for Malaria Vector Control in the Amazon State (CEPAVE).
👉 CEPAVE is a dedicated platform for studying malaria vector behaviour under controlled-field conditions, evaluating innovative tools and strategies for Anopheles control, and supporting the registration of insecticide-based products in Brazil and across the Amazon region.
📍 CEPAVE comprises:
• Six WHO-standard experimental huts built near Anopheles darlingi breeding sites
• A fully equipped laboratory (LBCVIV – GLP certified) for studies on insecticide efficacy, resistance, genetics, and vector bionomics
💡 This is a major step forward to improve malaria control strategies in the region and protect populations living in malaria-transmission settings.
