The WIN project was initiated by the WHO Research & Training program on Tropical Diseases (TDR) in March 2016. The main goal of the WIN was to establish a network of partners around the world for tracking insecticide resistance in the vectors of emerging arboviruses . The TDR project came to an end in March 2017 and it is timely to review progress and achievements made by the WIN during the first year and to discuss future orientation of the network. It is against that background that the first WIN Strategic meeting has been held in Rio de Janeiro from May 4 to 5 at the Pestana Rio Atlantica Hotel.
Objectives of the meeting
To review progress and achievements of the WIN-TDR network (2016-2017)
To define the direction, roadmap and core activities of the future network and produce an action plan for the next 3-5 years
Expected outcomes
The meeting group was expected to design the framework for the development of an international consortium (Future WIN) for the monitoring and management of insecticide resistance in mosquito vectors and arboviruses.
