International workshop on Insecticide resistance in vectors of emerging arboviruses

The International workshop on « Insecticide resistance in vectors of emerging arboviruses: challenge and propects for vector control » was held at the Windsor Marapendi, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 05 – 08 December 2016. The workshop served as a forum for addressing the challenges and priorities for the management of insecticide resistance and the control of vectors of emerging arboviruses worldwide, as well as identifying research priorities.

The workshop attracted about 160 people representing all 6 World Health Organization regions, 30 nationalities and a huge 73 000 live web viewings. Read the meeting report published in Parasite & Vectors !

Workshop outcomes :

To address the public health consequences of the (re) emergence of arbovirus diseases and spread of their vectors.
To share knowledge and information on distribution, mechanisms and impact of insecticide resistance in mosquito vectors.
To review the tools and strategies for the control of insecticide-resistant arbovirus vectors.
To promote private-public partnershipfor the development of new insecticide products for vector control.
To discuss research priorities for vector control and to provide a framework for the development of strategic plans for insecticide resistance management.
The workshop raised awareness and mobilized resources for strengthening the capacity of national authorities in resistance monitoring and facilitate basic and translational research with the scope to improve vector control and management of insecticide resistance.
