IRD – institut de Recherche pour le Développement (France)
IRD (the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development) is a well-respected and internationally recognized multidisciplinary research organization with nearly 80 years of experience collaborating with countries in the Global South and French overseas territories. Committed to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, IRD is renowned for its equitable scientific partnerships and interdisciplinary approach to sustainability science, which emphasizes citizen engagement. As an institute operating under the authority of the French ministries responsible for higher education and research, as well as European and foreign affairs, IRD plays a pivotal role in advancing research and innovation.
The researchers from IRD involved in the WINSA project are primarily affiliated with the MIVEGEC Joint Research Unit, the largest French laboratory focused on the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases. Dr. Vincent Corbel (Coordinator) is a medical entomologist with over 20 years of experience in vector research and field implementation (155 publications, H-index 55). With the backing of WHO NTD & TDR, he launched the pioneering WIN network in 2016 to assist member states in implementing timely surveillance of insecticide resistance in natural populations and inform decision-making for vector control strategies. He is currently leading the EU-MCSA INOVEC consortium aiming to develop, optimize and promote new tools and approaches for the surveillance and control of vectors of emerging arboviruses.
